Living in the desert, there is nothing better than escaping the heat for a quick getaway up north. We are fortunate to have a family cabin in Strawberry, AZ. that is an hour and a half away from home but still a wonderful 15 degrees cooler. When the @piebaraz opened, I thought, "meh, another pizza place". It was my sister told me the pies were actually amazing empanadas. One taste and there was no going back. Each time we go, we have to try multiple variations. While they are all amazing my favorite is the Mountain Mama, a delicious mixture including spinach, mushrooms, parmesan and peppers. Alan's is the mountain man, which includes a hearty filling with sausage, potatoes and gravy. These empanadas are so good they are worth a side trip just to try them out.
